The Art Nouveau-Style CAPELLA HANOI

  Hanoi Opera House and the Old Quarter, Capella Hanoi
             conjures the glamour of the high society of Opera in the Roaring Twenties.

                             This hotel’s theatrical, Art Nouveau style is the genius of
                                               ( And I LOVE )   Bill Bensley.'s  work

                            The 47 plush rooms and suites
                                (some with French balconies, others with terraces)
                                are decorated with operatic memorabilia.

At the BACKSTAGE Restaurant Opera Costumes set the stage.

Here is the DIVA Lounge

Diva Bar

Perched on the highest floor are four outstanding Opera Suites.
This is one of them.
You really must check out the carpets in the suites.
Look at the lamp shades!!
Love!

The ultimate DECO bath.
I am in a state of LOVE with this hotel.
I need to stay in this magical place created by Bill Bensley.

   You must search the memorabilia out in each room
        and in it's application!

Again, with the divine carpet!

The inset , (front facing) upholstered red wing chair is so clever.
Behind the bed is a stage set design painted on the wall.
Like I said...CLEVER.

Meet me there ?

What are your thoughts on this fabulous place?

I Need A Rock

It is finally beginning to warm up...

there are signs of life ....
the trees are sprouting tiny chartreuse leaves.

The forsythia are just now starting to bloom.
The tulips are beyond confused

And so am I.

 Last Thursday I went sailing with a friend and it was beyond divine.
Not a cloud in the sky.
Sun.
Warmth.
I really thought that I had died and gone to heaven.

my girl JOEY

Yes.
It was a good day.
One of the best that I have had since my move here.

The next day I worked in the yard with my mother
and it was a typically dismal and chilly.
We mulched, raked leaves and planted.

The very next day was Saturday and I went to work,
and at work I wear an orange apron.
I guess things could be worse.
Really? Could they?

I began to wait on a man,
he looked so familiar to me { I never forget a face}
so I asked him where he was from.
He said " Boca Raton Florida"
and at that very second I knew where I knew him from.
He looked at me and said;
" Oh, You're the girl with the little showroom in Royal Palm Plaza"

I quickly looked around for a rock to crawl under...

I said yes, "How nice to see you again."
I felt like I needed to explain myself....
Why was I up here, why was I working at a big box store
wearing and orange apron....

I wanted to tell him
that I was
in the witness protection program!!!
I didn't.

Anyway, I have more to tell about a man in my life, I will tell more later.
I Hope all are doing well and having a great summer.

I Have Been Tired and Lost

I have received emails from a few of you wondering where I have been.

Well...
I don't really know.
I have found myself working in a job that is ....
let's just say
another lesson in humility.
I say that and it may sound like a bad thing
but
it is not really.
Some of us need that sort of thing.
We need to be brought right back down to the basics in life.

As far as blogging....I have lost my way. I don't have a clue
as to who I am up here in Maine.
(and I love Maine)
G-d has some sort of plan for me ( I tell myself that) and I keep looking for the cue card...
....I haven't seen it yet

I actually am afraid to blog.
This blog may really become something else,
and I am not sure I am okay with that.
I WANT MY OLD LIFE BACK.
(just up here)
And that would be the career aspect
not the part with a wonderful relationship.
I had NO big relationship with a wonderful man.

I am telling you, it is such a foreign place here in Maine, I am trying to reinvent myself.
I haven't dressed since I got here.
It's just not that kind of place.
They wear North Face, Patagonia....you know excellent cold weather wear.
And my gads of jewelry...forget about wearing any of that.
I would stand out like someone from 'AWAY.'
Yes.
That is what they call anyone that was not born in this area...
the 'AWAY' people.
At work they say ;
" oh, they must be from 'away' that's why..."

I am trying to get it together to get  a job in the only 'TRADE' showroom in town.
It's a fine tile and stone company.
They already have someone working there (and most places only have 1 person)
and I bet she is not from 'AWAY.'
hahahahah

Here is some good news....
I have taken up snow skiing again.
 I loved skiing, second only to the ponies.
The winters are so long and last year I ended up in a bad way....!!
So, this year I decided to take up skiing again. I did and now
I am excited when it snows!!!

There is a ski resort right  here in Camden Maine called the Snow Bowl.
You can see the ocean when you ski.
Pretty cool.
There are about 50 ski resorts within 2 hours of where I live.

 My birthday is next week and my mom bought me ski boots
and the skis are on the way as we speak.
I am thrilled.
It is my most exhilarating time here.
~~~~~~~
You can ski until you are much older.
(something to look forward to)
There is a woman in one of the ski clubs that is 82.
and lift tickets are free if you are over 70 yrs old....sweet.
I am trying to find my voice again.
I just feel completely strange, I mean it.
I don't know what's next, I just go through the motions and wait.
Love to my friends
xx
The Harvest And The Moon In Maine
A local Harvest Moon shot taken here in Maine.
You should have seen it over the ocean ,
with the dozens of sailboats still moored in our harbors.
It was gorgeous.
I am adjusting to my first few weeks of full time work....
I am just now feeling better about it.
I have never punched a 'time clock' in my life.
The punching of 'the time clock' is a complete post all by itself.
Anyway......this is what I did on my day off with my Mom.
We drove to Beth's Farm in Warren Maine.
The drive there was gorgeous.....
rolling hills, horse farms, and agriculture farms.
I LOVE ROLLING HILLS!!!!
I dream of what it would be like to ride my horse on those hills,
 and through the meadows which are still filled with field flowers.
He would have loved that!!!
Back to the harvest.....
PUMKINS.
Indian Corn
The corn looked like hundreds of garnets.
Beautiful.
The last time I saw brussel sprouts like this
I was in Paris.
And I actually grabbed an apple off a tree.
It was yummy.
Now I can say that I have picked apples......well, one apple.
And we have wineries here too.
I love beets.
Everything is fresh off the farm....
like in back of this building.
They even have hay for the horse farms.
Aren't these adorable ?
We drove to lunch past this lake.
There are bazillions of lakes and rivers here.
Have a lovely weekend.
Hope everyone is well and enjoying the fall season.
Creative Flat Screen TV Solutions
I thought these were a few great and
creative flat screen TV solutions ....
Hope you like them to.
The sources are at the bottom of the post.
If you look closely above the fire place
you will see hinges on the right
where the panel opens to reveal the TV.
I love this one.
I did the same thing in Boca Raton Fla. for a client 15 years ago.
It was a nightmare to have made.
Back then cabinet makers hadn't seen this barn door concept yet....
So I had to listen to every reason why it was crazy and wouldn't work
ugh!
Have a great day!!
Great Interiors With Great Ideas
*Great Interiors With Great Ideas
I just love the drapery detail!!!
When I do draperies I usually (99% of the time)
use a solid body for the drapery
and a patterned Peek A Boo fabric for a 9" turn back
(on the leading edge)
that shows when you turn the fabric back slightly
when you tie them back with ropes and tassels or a medallion.
*as shown below*
I do the reverse-
the patterned fabric on the inside (turn-back).
And the body of my fabric usually matches the paint color.
And for the final finish touch....
on the leading edge I use a 1/4 " rope welt or even thinner if I can find it.
It looks SOOOOO detailed and FINISHED!
:)
I do
LOVE doing my window-treatments!!
How about the wood application behind this bed!
Brilliant.
Again.....
Contemporary mixed with curly iron and other traditional elements.
I think the mix of the two.
WORKS.
Each style helps the other to breath.
About Renée Finberg
I have been in this business since the age of 22.
I love what I do and cannot imagine my life without Design.
Design Challenges are great.
And because of those challenges
I have imported fine antique pieces from Paris,
Designed and Manufactured Furniture,
Created Fantastic Window Treatments,
And solved all kinds of spatial & architectural issues
With my unique style.
If I can't find it, I create it.
My rooms would make excellent movie sets.
I am a visual, tactile and audio sensitive individual.
Creating is what I live for, not math, not spelling, not science.
Just Great Design.
Just imagine how it would be if each of us,
If only for a few hours of everyday,We could be in a space that is our very own.A place that is exactly the way we want it to be
Surrounded by all the things we wanted to see,
The atmosphere we wanted feel, smell and the sound we wanted to listen to.
